Nicolas Gosse, Louis XI at the Feet of Francis di Paola

1843
Oil on canvas
Musée Anne de Beaujeu, Moulins, France

Anne of France, who served as regent from her father's death in 1483 until 1491. From Jean Hey's "Moulins Triptych," circa 1489-99.
Francis successfully exhorts the dying king to repentance. The boy in blue is the 13-year-old Dauphin, the future Charles VIII. The woman holding Louis's shoulders is Anne of France, who was to serve as regent. Her portrait is modeled on a detail in the contemporary Moulins Triptych.
